Elizabeth
Gatbonton is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics
whose educational background training was in general
education, second language teaching pedagogy,
theoretical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and
bilingualism. She has extensive experience in
teaching English as a foreign language and as
a second language and she has taught in various
settings around the world such as Canada, China,
England, The Philippines, and Vietnam. She has
also designed and implemented curricula and given
teacher training workshops in many of the places
already mentioned above plus Cuba, Japan, and
Venezuela. She has conducted research and published
papers on the social aspects of bilingualism,
experienced and novice ESL teacher cognition,
and methodology. Current research projects include
investigating the role of routinized speech segments
( formulas) in the promotion of automatic fluency
and the acquisition of second language phonology.
She is the author of the Bridge to Fluency textbook
series for teaching English as a second language
(Prentice Hall Canada LTD) to adult learners.
