  • Proof of a Quebec Teacher?s Certificate for those who wish to work in the Quebec school system.

The diploma program in Instructional Technology provides professional training in the theory, methods and techniques of educational technology. It gives teachers, corporate and industrial trainers, media consultants (and others concerned with media selection, audiovisual production, computer-based instruction, the effectiveness of instruction, self instructional systems, and information exchange) an opportunity to acquire competence in the theory and applications of instructional technology. The Ministry of Education recognizes this diploma for purposes of teacher classification for persons possessing a Quebec Teacher's Certificate and an undergraduate degree.

Computer-based learning; computer-supported collaborative learning; distance learning; classroom processes; human performance technology applications; management of educational technology units; program evaluation; educational evaluation and new technologies; corporate applications of educational technology; knowledge management; systematic review, knowledge utilization and evidence-based practice; learning objects and learning objects design; systemic modeling of educational systems; instructional design; learning styles and strategies; multimedia research and development.

 

Admission requirements

Entry into the program requires a bachelor's degree with a major or the equivalent in any subject, and a GPA of at least 2.70. The possession of a Quebec Teacher's Certificate will be an additional prerequisite for those who wish to work in the Quebec school system. The program is open to full-time and part-time students without preference.

For students whose first language is not English or French, a test of English language proficiency is required. To fulfill this requirement you must provide one of the following: iBTOEFL (90+), or paper based TOEFL (600+ with a writing score of 5.0+), or IELTS (7.0+), or proof that you have achieved the level of Concordia's English 212 course (testing is available through Concordia's English Department) Please contact the department for further details.

Requirement for Diploma

1. Credits. A fully-qualified candidate is required to complete a minimum of 30 credits.

2. The course requirements may generally be completed in one year, including a summer term, or the equivalent.

3. Courses. All candidates are required to take ETEC 504 Fundamentals of Educational Technology, ETEC 512 Human Performance Technology (6 credits), ETEC 513 Learning Theories and 591 Administration of Educational Technology Units for Educational and Training Systems for a total of 15 credits, plus a minimum of 15 credits selected from the elective courses offered.

4. Research papers, essays, examinations or preparation of audio-visual materials may be required as part of the work for individual courses.

 

Academic regulations

1. GPA Requirements. The Educational Technology Faculty Committee monitors academic progress of students on a regular basis. To be permitted to continue in the program, students must obtain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (Diploma 2.70) based on a minimum of 12 credits. Students whose GPA falls below the requirement are placed on academic probation during the following review period. Students whose program GPA falls below 3.00 (Diploma 2.70) for two consecutive review periods must withdraw from the program.

2. C Rule. If a student receives a C grade in course in the PhD or MA programs (two C grades in the Diploma), the Educational Technology Faculty Committee will review the case to decide whether the student will be permitted to continue in the program. The student may be required to repeat the course to obtain a B grade or higher.

3. F Rule. Students who receive a failing grade in program courses will be withdrawn from the program. Students may apply for readmission. Students who receive another failing grade after re-admission will be withdrawn from the program.

4. Time Limit.

DIT. All work for a Diploma, for full-time students must be completed within 6 terms (2 years) from the time of initial registration in the program at Concordia University; for part-time students, the time limit is 12 terms (4 years)

5. Graduation Requirement. In order to graduate, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 (Diploma 2.70).
