The CSLP (Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance) is a research centre that develops non-commercial interactive educational tools. Used in schools around the world, these tools teach students specific skills (e.g. literacy, information literacy) as well as how to become strong, self directed learners. The primary goal of our research is the advancement of knowledge and its wide-scale application in order to have an immediate and sustained effect on how our schools, post-secondary institutions and learning organizations operate. Specifically, we are interested in exploring the use of interactive applications in this regard.

We are currently looking for a Web Developer/Programmer, versed in JavaScript and HTML 5, to join our team at Concordia University. This individual needs to be able to jump into our development projects quickly. The project will use JavaScript and HTML 5 to do animations, control audio and video, and interactivity.

As a Developer/Programmer, you will be an integral part of the CSLP team. Specifically you will,

• Participate in the design and development of CSLP software projects.
• Work with project coordinators, instructional designers and researchers to ensure that the software conforms to our software design principles (see link)
• Meet project requirements in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
• Actively engage in assigned creative design activities: design specifications, design revision, etc.
• Attend relevant meetings and collaborate with other team members to ensure the highest quality design and implementation of CSLP software projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computation Arts, or Certificate in Web Development, (or equivalent) and 2 years of relevant experience preferably.
• Strengths in as many of these areas as possible:
• Essential: Javascript, HTML 5
• Important: Web integration and programming using PHP, MYSQL, CSS, Ajax, JQueery.
• Assets: Interface design, illustration & animation skills. Knowledge of Adobe Creative suite. Knowledge of SQL and Java. Knowledge of server configuration for Mac, Windows and Linux (IIS, Apache).
• Creative and organized individual with strong teamwork skills.
• Service-oriented individual with some understanding of the use and workings of technology-based systems for research and education, especially web-based systems.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Bilingualism is an asset (English/French).

The research performed by the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP) aims to develop strategies and tools to facilitate students' acquisition of general competencies that foster communication, literacy, numeracy, and inquiry skills for creative use in educational settings. The primary goal of our research is the advancement of knowledge and its wide-scale application in order to have an immediate, direct, and sustained effect on how our schools, post-secondary institutions and learning organizations operate. We are especially interested in learning how interactive computer technology can be used in this regard.

The CSLP is currently looking for an Instructional Designer primarily to continue work on the design of an evidence-based bilingual tool entitled Orienter la réussite des mathématiques émergentes (ORME)/ Emergent Literacy in Mathematics (ELM), designed to develop foundational skills in mathematics among other responsibilities. The tool will be integrated into existing bilingual software designed by the CSLP and LEARN entitled the Learning Toolkit (LTK). Currently the LTK assists students in developing foundational skills for reading, writing and self-regulatory learning strategies. The LTK is missing the fourth pillar of early childhood learning, development of numeracy.

• Work on all instructional design activities related to the design of a numeracy prototype (including, but not limited to, design specifications, flow charting, asset creation, design revision, etc.).
• Collaborate with the lead Instructional Designer, the LTK Coordinator and the Creative Director to ensure that the design of this prototype conforms to the theoretical orientation of the Learning Toolkit.
• Collaborate with the Design and Development team to ensure the highest quality design for this prototype.
• Collect data on the quality and quantity of use of the prototype (e.g. observations, focus groups, questionnaires).

• A master's degree in educational technology (or equivalent experience) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in an instructional design position for education.
• Teaching or tutoring in mathematics an asset.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• A strong understanding of the use and workings of Instructional Design systems for research and education.
• Knowledge of the literature on the teaching of early numeracy and self regulation an asset.
• An understanding of the Quebec Education Program.
• Ability to work autonomously, yet in a team environment.
