George Sefa Dei is a Professor of Sociology and Equity Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. His vast body of research is concerned with the practice and theory of anti-racist education, minority schooling, international development and anti-colonial thought.
Professor Dei holds a B.A. (Hons., 1978) from the University of Ghana, an M.A. (1980) from McMaster University and a Ph.D. (1986) from the University of Toronto.
Dei is a prolific writer, and has published a myriad of influential texts including (but not limited to): Anti-Colonialism and Education: the Politics of Resistance (2006), The Poetics of Anti-Racism (2006), Critical Issues in Anti-Racist Research Methodologies (2005), and Schooling and Education in Africa: the Case of Ghana (2004).
In addition to his many academic achievements, Dei has been the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including: Toronto Black Alumni Association Award for ‘Excellence in Education’ (2005), ANKH Ann Ramsey Award for 'Intellectual Initiative and Academic Action' (2005), William P. Hubbard Award for ‘Race Relations' (2003), and Race, Gender, and Class Project Academic Award (2002).
