The mission of the 2013 Graduate Symposium in the Department of Education at Concordia University is to provide students with the opportunity to showcase interdisciplinary research, learn valuable conference skills, and foster academic collaborations. The theme of the 2013 Graduate Symposium in the Department of Education is Making the Connection: Theory, Research, and Practice. The Graduate Symposium in the Department of Education aims to make connections between educational theory, research, and practice by bringing together researchers and practitioners from all areas of Education and related disciplines. Students will gather to present academic research papers and projects in a collaborative atmosphere and have the opportunity to network with alumni and faculty from the Department of Education.

In-Person PresentationsPresenters will be given 15 minutes to present an academic research paper or project in-person. This will be followed by a 5-minute question and answer period which will be facilitated by a moderator. Virtual PresentationsPresenters will be given 15 minutes to present an academic research paper or project via Skype. This will be followed by a 5-minute question and answer period which will be facilitated by a moderator. Students who are interested in presenting at the conference from universities outside of Montreal and are unable to travel are strongly encouraged to choose this presentation format. Carousel PresentationsPresenters will be given 15 minutes to present an academic research paper or project. After the initial presentation, attendees will select a new presentatation to attend and presenters will repeat their presentation to a new group of attendees. This presentation format will be repeated for 3 rounds of presentations. Students in the thesis proposal stage are strongly encouraged to choose this highly interactive presentation format to gain useful peer feedback. Poster PresntationsPresenters will prepare a poster based on an academic research paper or project. Posters should be 3 feet by 4 feet or 36 inches by 48 inches maximum. Posters will be on display for 60 minutes in the Library Building Atrium throughout the lunch break. Conference attendees will circulate to learn more about the posters. Presenters should be prepared to explain their academic research paper or project in 3 minutes or less and to respond to questions. Students in undergraduate programs are strongly encouraged to choose this presentation format. |
