The mission of the 2016 Graduate Symposium in the Department of Education (GSDE) is to provide students with the opportunity to showcase interdisciplinary research, learn valuable conference skills, and foster research and professional collaboration.
Our Theme
The theme of the 2016 Graduate Symposium in the Department of Education is 21st Century Learning: Critical thinking, Collaboration, and Creativity. We hope you will join us on March 19th, 2016 to be part of the conversation. We aim to provide a supportive space to share knowledge and to transform our understanding of education, knowledge production and critical practices within an interdisciplinary community.
Our Team
Meet our team of student organizers:
Jennica is a second year M.A. student in Applied Linguistics, and is focusing her studies on how technology can be used in language learning.
Lauren is pursuing an MA in Applied Linguistics at Concordia University, with research interests in phonology, morphology and the creation of classroom materials. She has 10 years' experience teaching ESL and TESOL.
Andrea is a second year Master's student in Educational Studies and an ESOL teacher. She is exploring her interests in adult education, especially experiential learning, online and blended learning, and cross-cultural education. She is also active in a working group on sustainability in teaching and learning.
A recent graduate from the M.A. in Educational Technology program, Harry is currently pursuing professional development studies in Business Administration at the John Molson School of Business and works full time as a Pedagogical Counsellor at Vanier College where he specializes in student success and engagement.
Vim is pursuing her M.A. in Educational Technology at Concordia University's Department of Education and possesses a BComm in Accountancy from the John Molson School of Business. She has taught Business Administration courses at Dawson College since 2013. In her current professional role as Microsoft Teacher Ambassador, she supports educators in the Eastern Canada Region to leverage Microsoft's technology tools for the 21st Century classroom.
Suzanne is a graduate student in Applied Linguistics. Her interests are in pronunciation perception, production, and pedagogy, as well as sociolinguistic aspects of pronunciation.
As a second year M.A. Educational Studies student, she's fascinated by reconstructing knowledge through creative social justice pedagogies. She is currently working as a Teacher's Assistant as well as is involved with research related the influence of local and global educational initiatives in strengthening community engagement.

Alexandre Dion is a second year student in the Applied Linguistics program at Concordia University.
Elena Baise
Keynote / Logistics
Elena obtained her undergraduate degree from Concordia's John Molson School of Business and is a first year student in the Instructional Technology Diploma program.
Christine Beaulieu
Outreach / Keynote / Hospitality
Chistine Beaulieu is an ESL teacher and a M.A. student in Applied Linguistics with a particular interest in soiolinguistics and the development of cultural identity in the ESL classroom.
Andreea Floricel
Outreach / Keynote
Andreea (M.A. Educational Technology) is an independent communications specialist with extensive experience working with cultural associations and NGOs in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. She is currently developing the We Are Gardens project, which aims to bridge sustainability and education.
